Flint River Ranch
Oven-Baked Dog Food
Fresh from the oven to your door!

Our Flint River Ranch, Super Premium All-Natural Formula, is a slowly TWICE OVEN-BAKED under carefully controlled conditions and proper temperatures.  This unique baking process changes the hard to digest molecules of "raw" starches into easy to digest dextrines.   This process acts as a "pre-digest" of the kibble food, resulting in less strain on the dog's digestive system and produces a greater degree of food absorption.   A dog's intestinal tract is short; it functions in the most efficient manner when the food is concentrated and can be quickly digested.  The important vitamins, minerals and food ingredients are then easily assimilated into the dog's digestive system.

EXTRUSION vs QUALITY OVEN-BAKING:
Most companies prepare their food by steaming it as quickly as possible, usually less than 3 minutes, then extruding it under extreme pressure through a metal die (A steam extrusion process).  This process expands the food with air creating a uniform shape.  This method does not produce the highly digestible food that your dog's system requires.  This extruded food (cooked in a very short time) is usually almost "raw" and requires the addition of what many nutritionists feel are harmful chemical preservatives (Ethoxyquin, BHA and BHT) to maintain a reasonable product shelf-life.  These chemical products may be associated with dry skin, allergic reactions, dental disease, poor health and degenerative organ dysfunction.

OVEN-BAKING PROCESS:
In the oven-baking process, a small 2 inch size biscuit is baked, moving slowly through the oven - then broken into smaller, irregular kibble ranging in size from tiny morsels to about 1/2 inch.  The smaller morsels are important as they will digest very quickly in the dog's system helping create immediate nutritional value for your pet.  The larger, crunchy kibble naturally cleans teeth, exercises the gums and freshens breath.  Since the food is concentrated, there is more value with less food consumed.  Feeding oven-baked foods require 20-25% less food than steam extruded foods.  Pet owners will find less odor and stool clean-up.  Feeding Flint River Ranch quality products, you will be able to see the difference in your pet's health, skin, coat, energy level and quality life-style.

ALL-NATURAL INGREDIENTS:
Quality ingredients provide for a pets' healthy well-being by helping the pet's body holistically heal itself through healthy nutrition.

GRAIN:
Whole wheat and selected parts of the wheat berry are used as our base grain. Wheat grains are not only more digestible than corn, it is one of the most nutritionally balanced cereal grains.  It is an easy-to-digest source of carbohydrates, fiber and energy.  A combination of grains, like a combination of meat, is a better than just one source.  Low quality fillers like wood fiber, corn cobs, peanut hulls, cottonseed, straw, soy beans or citrus pulp are not found in Flint River Ranch products.

MEAT:
Chicken is our base meat source, with the addition of lamb and a small amount of fish.  There are no rendered by-products, intestines, heads, feet or feathers in our formulas.  The amino acids provided by the meats are the basic building blocks of muscle, skin, coat, bone, blood and the immune system.

VITAMINS AND MINERALS:
Our minerals are chelated: bonded with amino acids (protein); highly effective in providing metabolic absorption.  Our products are preserved with a combination of mixed tocopherols (Vitamin E) and ascorbic acid (Vitamin C).  No harmful chemicals are used.

FLAX:
The different proteins in flax provide a high proportion of unsaturated essential fatty acids and dietary fiber.  Flax is recognized for its potential for reducing the risk of some chronic diseases; it helps improve the thickness and sheen of hair coat.  It provides a great benefit to oven-baked food as it resists oxidation from the baking process and improves product shelf life.

PUPPY FOODS
The Flint River Ranch Puppy/Adult is the best puppy food on the market.  It is easy to eat and quickly digests into the puppy's system.  Some feel that a growing puppy should have more fat and protein; however, recent studies support our belief that too much protein can cause problems with their future growth.  Water can be mixed with the kibble for young puppies.

WHAT IS MEAL?
Meal means reduced in size.  Our meal is meat (never by-products) that is cooked, most water removed and reduced in size (ground) in order for a uniform mix of the meat, grains, vitamins and minerals.

WHOLE CHICKEN?
Why don't you use whole chicken like some other manufacturers?  Remember, whole chicken is not like you buy in the grocery store.  Whole chicken label for pet food is the whole chicken - including intestines, heads, feet, bones, feathers and everything but the cackle.  No thanks.

ORGANIC CHICKEN?
It is possible to put one organic chicken in 50 tons of food and legally say we use organic, range-fed chicken.  Some manufacturers take this option.  We don't.   With all of our ingredients, we pay a premium price for the very best available.   Just like you would feed your family.

SHELF LIFE?
When properly stored in a cool place away from moisture, oven-baked food can be fed for about 11 months.  However, the ideal period is 5 to 6 months.

WHY 23% PROTEIN?
It is not the amount of protein that is important, it is the type of protein and how easily it can be digested.  The protein is the right amount for all stages of life.   In some cases of working dogs or dogs under high stress, the addition of meat protein can be considered.

BAKING TEMPERATURES?
Any cook can mix ingredients - the secret is in the total cooking process.  This is one of the reasons our food is not easily duplicated by other manufacturers.

OVERWEIGHT DOGS?
We find many pet owners still feed the amount of oven-baked food that they would normally feed with other brands - about 3-4 cups for a 55 lb dog.  With concentrated premium foods, it is best to feed about 25% less.  Dogs may require a little adjustment over a period of time to shrink their stomach and reduce their food intake.  Lightly cooked vegetables of all types can help while the dog's system adjusts.  Improper feeding is the greatest cause of a dog being overweight, not the quality of the food.

COLOR OF THE FOOD?
An oven-baked food will have various shades of colors - from the soft light inside to the heavy brown crunchy outside crust.  Oven-baked food is in its natural state.  No oils or liver digest is sprayed on the food to encourage a dog to eat.  Like all natural things in our environment, as well as the baking process - color of the food will vary from time to time.

This is an important part of the manufacturing process - the light, smaller kibble for quick digestion - the heavy crunchy to benefit teeth and gums.

The senior formula - 1/3 less protein and fat - is made from the same ingredients as our regular puppy and adult food.  However, because the ingredient mix is different, it will generally appear lighter in color.

The Nugget formula is the same as the regular puppy and adult; however the nugget preparation is not broken after the baking process - the various sizes will appear to be a crustier, darker brown color.

SOFT STOOL?
An all-natural, premium food is very rich and has little useless fillers.  This is why we recommend new customers mix the food with the dog's regular food during a transition period.  If the dog has loose stool, or tends to eat grass or dirt, cooked rice or vegetables can be added to the food until the dog's system adjusts.

WHY NOT NICE AND ROUND PIECES?
We have elves that work all night long with their little hammers to make sure we have small pieces.  They know dogs don't eat food - they "wolf" it down - small pieces easier in the dog's system.  This is what makes the food so great!

MOTHS - WORMS - INSECTS - MILDEW?
The heat in manufacturing destroys any potential insect eggs that might be left after the cleaning process.  Food that is not properly stored, or when the bag is left open will attract all types of ants and flying bugs that lay eggs in the rich food.  In an extremely short time, these eggs will hatch.  This is more frequent in natural oven-baked foods.  Pet owners with a worm or moth problem should consider changing their method of storage.  Natural oven-baked foods attract moisture - which can turn into mildew spoilage quickly in summer weather and areas of high humidity.  Store pet food in a dry cool place.

MEDICAL ADVICE?
We do not provide medical advice; this is left up to your Vet who knows your animal. The industry is blessed with many fine Vets that truly acre about animal health.   However, regardless of professional advice, it is up to each pet owner to read and understand pet food labels.

Veterinary schools do not require students to take courses in nutrition.  Consumers are electing to no longer support manufacturers that have little regard for their pet's health.  The professional, both in the veterinary practice and in the food they recommend, are aware of this concern and are following a national trend for a healthier lifestyle.  Much of the widely advertised dog foods contain by-products and the remains from the human garbage chain with harmful chemical additives,  These packages should have the skull and crossbones added to the label!
